First Mississippi Kites

Today’s Count: 15

Osprey-1

White-tailed Kite-1

Mississippi Kite-12

Swainson’s Hawk-1

Additional raptors seen:

Turkey Vulture-4

Black Vulture-1

Even though it was overcast for most of the day the raptors were rather high today and observations were relatively quick.  Yet another White-tailed Kite headed on across the bay.

Fifty-six species were seen from the tower today with a few empids, a dark Ibis, 6 Roseate Spoonbills, 2 Black-bellied Whistling Ducks, and a Dickcissel a few of the different species today. Nothing really got in numbers from the tower except for White-winged Doves with at least 112 birds passing by in very large flocks.  A running total (in no particular order) of species first seen from the hawk tower will be updated throughout the season on the 2014 Bird Species Seen page.  Thanks to Joe Kennedy for helping with the count today.

There wasn’t much (close) to photograph today on the tower but here’s a few species seen along Hawkins Camp road and Robin’s Park.

How can one tire of seeing these?
